It is hard to sum up this year into any short sentiment, aside from devastating. The hits have just kept on coming.
Australia kicked off the year by declaring a state of disaster after large brush fires erupted that would go on to kill as many as 500 million animals. California also was struck with massive forest fires that caused the death of both animals and human life. Shortly thereafter, we were struck with news of a growing viral danger, that would become the COVID-19 pandemic. But 2020 had just begun.
By Spring, tornado season had struck. It was a devastating year with over 600 tornadoes and 74 dead. With COVID-19 raging across the globe, Donald Trump decided to remove all funding from the USA to WHO, for covid-19 relief and research. Yet another bad decision in the travesty that has been his presidency – which, was put to the test. The United States held an impeachment trial for Donald J. Trump – which was incredibly disappointing, but not at all shocking when he was not removed from office.
With a pandemic raging and more than 2 million infected worldwide, the world economy began to buckle. The International Monetary Fund expects the world economy to shrink by up to 3% by the end of 2020 – the worst dive since the 1930s during “the great depression”. With people getting sick, and wallets empty, tempers began to flare.
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while being arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. Two autopsies found Floyd’s death to be a homicide. The Black community world wide has woken up with anger, frustration and reason – protests worldwide ranging from 2 – over a million participants.
The fight for racial equality and to end police brutality has started anew. At points, entire portions of cities were claimed by protesters as “autonomous zones”. The fight continues in the streets and if you can support those fighting for justice, please do so.
Speaking of the dead, we have lost many icons in humanity this year. Some of the most prominent being: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Chadwick Boseman, Alex Trebek, Kobe Bryant, Sean Connery, David Prowse, Naya Rivera, Ian Holm and John Lewis. Aside from the icons, at the time of me writing this: 1.67 million people have died from COVID-19. 40 transgender or gender non-conforming individuals have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx transgender women.
We have also had to deal with massive loads of utter nonsense this year. From “Murder Hornets” to “5G Conspiracies” 2020 has had it all. The most prolific conspiracy group ever to exist has become violent and ever more dangerous, QANON. With Donald Trump leaving the White House [we hope] in January, it would be wise to watch the hangouts [Parler, etc] to be sure they are not organizing further under their supreme lord, Trumpelion.
Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed and seated on the SCOTUS which is a devastating hit to fair and equal law. The SCOTUS is one sided with 6 of the 9 being conservative leaning justices. It can be assumed that Roe v Wade is in the target hairs of the Theocratic Radical Right. The US is not the only country having abortion woes – Poland passed a complete ban on abortion this year, a devastating blow to reproductive rights for polish individuals.
Needless to say, it’s been one hell of a year. BUT, it is almost over. I plan on making this final month the best month of 2020. I will be attending The Satanic Temple’s Virtual Headquarters for nine days of holiday cheer and joining in on all the fun with BaphoNet and TST TV as well.
No matter what 2020 has given us, we can still own it. We can learn from all the mistakes made by us, and others, and make sure we don’t ever let it happen again. We have to work together to keep fighting this pandemic of both disinformation and covid-19. Research any claims you see before sharing them. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Stay away from people in public.
No matter what, we are still here. Strong, proud, Satanists. We have each other and ourselves- the world is ours!
Hail Thyself & Hail Satan!
NON SERVIAM!
Happy Holidays!
